Wednesdays We Teach — NECROMOLDS

Behold, the Necromolds! Banned by feudal wizards and banished from mortal hands, these evil spellbooks and the monsters they hold have once again returned to wreak havoc on humankind!

In Necromolds: Monster Battles, players build and battle golem armies using their Necromold spellbooks and containers of spell clay. The stronger the monster, the more clay it demands - so build your army wisely! Roll and assign your command dice each round to determine when monsters move and fight. Roll your combat dice to resolve monster battles, leaving the defeated monster smashed on the battle map!

Are YOU powerful enough to collect and command the Necromolds?

Books & Boards — CATAN

In partnership with The Library Center, join us for our monthly book club! Each month we will select a board game to play and discuss the books we’ve been reading this month. This is a great way to learn/play a board game, find new books to read, find new friends, and to have a great time for FREE!

For September, we will play Catan. In CATAN (formerly The Settlers of Catan), players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine what resources the island produces. Players build by spending resources (sheep, wheat, wood, brick and ore) that are depicted by these resource cards; each land type, with the exception of the unproductive desert, produces a specific resource: hills produce brick, forests produce wood, mountains produce ore, fields produce wheat, and pastures produce sheep.

Admission for the book club is free!

Come Play “Blood on the Clocktower”

Join Guest Gamer Guide Matt as he takes you through the thrilling social deduction game Blood on the Clocktower!

In the quiet village of Ravenswood Bluff, ‌a demon walks amongst you...

During a hellish thunderstorm, on the stroke of midnight, there echoes a bone-chilling scream. The townsfolk rush to investigate and find the town storyteller murdered, their body impaled on the hands of the clocktower, blood dripping onto the cobblestones below. A Demon is on the loose, murdering by night and disguised in human form by day. Some have scraps of information. Others have abilities that fight the evil or protect the innocent. But the Demon and its evil minions are spreading lies to confuse and breed suspicion. Will the good townsfolk put the puzzle together in time to execute the true demon and save themselves? Or will evil overrun this once peaceful village?

Blood on the Clocktower is a bluffing game enjoyed by 5 to 20 players on opposing teams of Good and Evil, overseen by a Storyteller player who conducts the action and makes crucial decisions. The goal of the game is to successfully deduce and execute the demons before they outnumber the townfolk.

During a 'day' phase players socialize openly and whisper privately to trade knowledge or spread lies, culminating in a player's execution if a majority suspects them of being Evil. Of a 'night' time, players close their eyes and are woken one at a time by the Storyteller to gather information, spread mischief, or kill.

The Storyteller uses the game's intricate playing pieces to guide each game, leaving others free to play without a table or board. Players stay in the thick of the action to the very end even if their characters are killed, haunting Ravenswood Bluff as ghosts trying to win from beyond the grave.

If you arrive late to a game, you can enter after it's started as a powerful Traveller character with unusual talents and questionable allegiances. Each character comes with their own special ability and no two players in a game are ever the same character.

Blood on the Clocktower is free with your paid admission. We will be playing in the Crow’s Nest from 7-10 p.m.

Wednesdays We Teach — LURE

Welcome to the world of competitive fishing!

Players compete to collect the most points by reeling in fish cards. To catch a fish, players roll their dice to beat the fish's target number, as well as meet any specific requirements on the card. Whoever completes those requirements and is closest to the target catches the fish!

Players secretly bid on how many dice to use before the round starts. Bid less dice to go first, but use more dice to make it easier to catch.

Most points wins after the deck of fish cards runs out!

Will you play aggressively and use fewer dice? Or, will you count on your opponents to be too risky? Let's fish!

Wednesdays We Teach: TETHER

Wednesdays We Teach — TETHER

Astronauts love floating in space, but not all by themselves. Tether them together so they don't drift through the galaxy alone.

Each card in Tether has a two-digit number in the top corner, and when you rotate the card 180 degrees, the number in the opposite corner has the same two digits, but the positions are swapped. For instance the card with a 68 in one corner has 86 in the opposite corner. Opponents sit across the table from each other, which means that when you play a card each player sees a different number.

You can connect astronauts together if they have consecutive numbers. One player (or team) connects astronauts together horizontally on the table and the other connects them vertically. Since each side sees a different number and connects in a different direction, but is playing with the same astronauts, you have an asymmetric puzzle with a lot of interaction between players.

Join Gamer Guide Jess as she teaches you how to play TETHER.

Books & Boards — BOOP

In partnership with The Library Center, join us for our monthly book club! Each month we will select a board game to play and discuss the books we’ve been reading this month. This is a great way to learn/play a board game, find new books to read, find new friends, and to have a great time for FREE!

For October, we will play BOOP. A deceptively cute, deceivingly challenging abstract strategy game for two players.

Every time you place a kitten on the bed, it goes “boop.” Which is to say that it pushes every other kitten on the board one space away. Line up three kittens in a row to graduate them into cats… and then, get three cats in a row to win.

But that isn’t easy with both you AND your opponent constantly “booping” kittens around. It’s like… herding cats!
Can you “boop” your cats into position to win?
Or will you just get “booped” right off the bed?

  • Approachable but challenging abstract game. Plays in 20 to 30 minutes.

  • Features a quilted, fabric board that lays over the back of the box, completing the miniature bed playing surface. 8 wood kittens and cats per player - 32 adorable cat pieces in all!

Admission for the book club is free!

Trekking the National Parks is a spirited family board game that lets players experience the U.S. National Parks in a fun and competitive way.

Up to six players compete in a cross country race to visit the National Parks and collect the most points. Gathering colored trek cards allows players to move across the map and claim valuable park cards. If a player is the first to visit a National Park, they collect that park's colored stone, which award bonus points at the end of the game. Wednesdays We Teach — RIVER VALLEY GLASSWORKS

Welcome to River Valley! The beautiful pieces of glass that can be found along the river here have attracted the most entrepreneurial of woodland creatures to set up shop.

In River Valley Glassworks, you play as one of these pioneers, drafting glass from the market of river tiles. To do so, you have to play a piece from your inventory into the river. Each river tile can take only a specific shape, and you must play into a space adjacent to where you want to draft from. After you pick up your glass, the river shifts forward, revealing new pieces and new opportunities.

Store the glass you pick up strategically in your shop. Depending on how the glass pieces are placed, your score will change drastically. Fill in rows and columns to gain bonus points, but don't draft too many of one type to avoid negative points!

Wednesdays We Teach: THE NIGHT CAGE

Wednesdays We Teach — THE NIGHT CAGE

You awaken in the dark, your skin cold, your mind blank. You have nothing but your fear, a flickering candle, and a question: How long will your light last?

Trapped and crawling your way through a pitch-black labyrinth, equipped with nothing but dim candles, you must work together to explore the maze and escape. Unfortunately, your weak candlelight illuminates only your immediate surroundings. Worse still, horrifying Wax Eaters — monsters who despise the light — lurk in the suffocating darkness for their opportunity to strike.

The Night Cage is a fully co-operative, horror-themed tile-placement game that traps 1-5 lost souls within an unnatural labyrinth of eternal darkness. To win, players must each collect a key, find a gate, and escape as a group.

Escape won't be easy as each player's visibility is limited by the weak light of their candle. They illuminate only tiles directly connected to their own, and when players move, tiles that fall into darkness are removed from the game. Doubling back the way you came only opens new paths, the old ones being lost forever with critical keys and gates vanishing if your light move away from them...

Join Gamer Guide Jess as she teaches you how to play THE NIGHT CAGE.

Ultimate Werewolf Night

Big fan of Werewolf or are you just an interested Villager? Head to Village Meeple Saturday, July 13, to try your hand at Ultimate Werewolf!

Ultimate Werewolf is an interactive game of deduction for two teams: Villagers and Werewolves. The Villagers don't know who the Werewolves are, and the Werewolves are trying to remain undiscovered while they slowly eliminate the Villagers one at a time. A Moderator (who isn't on a team) runs the game.

Ultimate Werewolf takes place over a series of game days and nights. Each day, the players discuss who among them is a Werewolf, and vote out a player. Each night, the Werewolves choose a player to eliminate, while the Seer learns if one player is a Werewolf or not. The game is over when either all the Villagers or all the Werewolves are eliminated.

Ultimate Werewolf, a new edition of the award-winning, best-selling werewolf title from Bézier Games, has been reimagined to allow new players to quickly get up and running, with a larger box, totally rewritten and simplified rules, and a guide for the included roles. With all-new art and a great new card design, it's the perfect way to introduce groups of 7-30 people to Werewolf.*

Join Guest Gamer Guide Jenifer as she host a night of Ultimate Werewolf! This event is free with paid admission. First 15 guests will nab a spot and get started at 6:30 p.m. Guests should be 13 or older.

DEMO: BELRATTI

Join Guest Gamer Guide Saunsu as she teaches you Belratti.

You are buying artwork for your museum, always trying to meet the current trends and finding genuine art from your associates. But the famous Belratti is trying to cheat his own fake paintings into your collection.

In Belratti, players are split into two roles — buyers and painters — and are playing against the game. The game presents two cards as topics for which the buyers need to buy paintings. They ask for a certain number of cards, and the painters have to collectively meet this target number.

The painters select cards from their hands they think will fit the most to one of the topics. Then additional cards are added as Belratti's fakes. All cards are shuffled upside down, then flipped up. The buyers then have to select all the cards from the painters, not the fake cards by Belratti.

The roles change after each round. If too many fakes are bought, the players lose.

Wednesdays We Teach — NEKOJIMA

In Nekojima, “The Island of Cats” in Japan, an electricity network is developing to supply the various lively districts of the island. The installation of electric poles becomes more complex due to the narrowness of the territory and its curious population of cats strolling on the cables.

Nekojima is a wooden game of skill and dexterity in which you have to keep an entire installation in balance. Players take turns placing or stacking denchuu — 電柱, or electrical poles — respecting the locations without any hanging cables touching. Be careful not to be the one to bring down the structure. This game requires reflection, concentration and skill.

In competition, the player who knocks down the structure loses.
In co-operation, the goal is to go as far as possible.

Join Gamer Guide Jess as she teaches you how to play NEKOJIMA.

DEMO: Nunatak: Temple of Ice

Join Guest Gamer Guide Saunsu as she teaches NUNATAK: TEMPLE OF ICE.

In the three-dimensional construction game Nunatak: Temple of Ice, you build a step pyramid together in a mountain of ice — but this game isn't co-operative, so watch your step! (A "nunatak", by the way, is a hill or mountain completely surrounded by glacial ice.)

For each pillar stone placed, you receive cards with different values that will affect your score in the end. For every four pillars built in a square, a new level of the monument opens up, with the temple of ice growing step by step. Who can place their stones most wisely and rise to the icy challenge?

Books & Boards — FOURTH WING & WYRMSPAN

In partnership with The Library Center, join us for our monthly book club! Each month we will select a board game and a book with similar theme to discuss and play.

For August, we will play WYRMSPAN. ou are an amateur dracologist in the world of Wyrmspan, a place where dragons of all shapes, sizes, and colors roam the skies. Excavate a hidden labyrinth you recently unearthed on your land and entice these beautiful creatures to roost in the sanctuary of your caves.

During a game of Wyrmspan, you will build a sanctuary for dragons of all shapes and sizes. Your sanctuary begins with 3 excavated spaces—the leftmost space in your Crimson Cavern, your Golden Grotto, and your Amethyst Abyss. Over the course of the game, you will excavate additional spaces in your sanctuary and entice dragons to live there, chaining together powerful abilities and earning the favor of the Dragon Guild.

We will be reading FOURTH WING by Rebecca Yarros. Fourth Wing is a high fantasy novel that follows a cadet named Violet Sorrengail as she braves Basgiath War College, where the only goal is to bond with a dragon or die trying. As the daughter of a commanding general, she has an immediate target on her back.

Admission for the book club is free!

Wednesdays We Teach: GNOME HOLLOW

Wednesdays We Teach: GNOME HOLLOW

Wednesdays We Teach — GNOME HOLLOW

Since the beginning of time, gnomes have been the humble caretakers of nature. In secret they emerge from their underground homes to maintain meticulous rings of mushrooms known to the humanfolk as "fairy rings". But the work must be done quickly because as soon as a mushroom path is finished, the mushrooms are ready for picking. Who will be the cleverest gnome and harvest the most mushrooms by the end of the season?

Gnome Hollow is a spatial, tile-placement, worker-placement game in which you grow a tabletop garden of mushrooms and flowers. Every piece is a hand-painted watercolor that captures the whimsical feel of gnomes and nature. Turns are deceptively simple: Players place tiles into the garden, and move a gnome to take a single action on their turn.

But placing a tile and taking an action can create play combinations that are intensely satisfying. Players strategically place tiles and develop rings of valuable mushrooms. Once a ring is completed, they harvest each mushroom and eventually carry them to market to sell for the shiniest treasures available in the hollow.

Small mushroom rings offer small rewards. Larger mushroom rings offer richer rewards! Completing a new circle automatically increases your score. The player board automatically calculates your growing score every time you move a ring marker to unlock your latest reward. This means that every completed mushroom ring offers new strategic choices and important bonuses for individual players.

As you grow the garden, some rewards give players access to rare signposts. Once placed in completed rings, signposts become unique worker placement spots for any of the gnomes in the Hollow.

Wildflowers are literally wilds and can complete any ring, or solve complicated problems during play. Planting them grants players a wildflower token. Other players can move to a flower as an action to collect that same wildflower token. When these tokens are placed into the individual player boards, these become a valuable set-collection strategy, while simultaneously building toward the end of the game.

Gnomes visit the Pinwheel Market to fulfill mushroom orders to gain treasure in the form of bottle caps, buttons, feathers, crystals, and skeleton keys. Each card offers two options. You can choose to fulfill the top portion to grab a bit of treasure, or fulfill the bottom to gain the most. The white part of the card gives players a mushroom trade that can be used in future turns by visiting sign posts.

Clever players will plan their strategy carefully, balancing the building of mushroom rings with trips to the market, as well as expanding their personal collection of wildflowers that grow across the garden. As the game progresses, it is as much about playing a beautiful game as it is a wonderful journey to strategically outplay your opponents.

Come to Gnome Hollow and experience a peaceful garden, the thrill of competing to harvest buckets of mushrooms, and the reward of gathering in all your shiny treasures!

Join Gamer Guide Jess as she teaches you how to play GNOME HOLLOW.
