Come Play “Blood on the Clocktower”

Join Guest Gamer Guide Matt as he takes you through the thrilling social deduction game Blood on the Clocktower!

In the quiet village of Ravenswood Bluff, ‌a demon walks amongst you...

During a hellish thunderstorm, on the stroke of midnight, there echoes a bone-chilling scream. The townsfolk rush to investigate and find the town storyteller murdered, their body impaled on the hands of the clocktower, blood dripping onto the cobblestones below. A Demon is on the loose, murdering by night and disguised in human form by day. Some have scraps of information. Others have abilities that fight the evil or protect the innocent. But the Demon and its evil minions are spreading lies to confuse and breed suspicion. Will the good townsfolk put the puzzle together in time to execute the true demon and save themselves? Or will evil overrun this once peaceful village?

Blood on the Clocktower is a bluffing game enjoyed by 5 to 20 players on opposing teams of Good and Evil, overseen by a Storyteller player who conducts the action and makes crucial decisions. The goal of the game is to successfully deduce and execute the demons before they outnumber the townfolk.

During a 'day' phase players socialize openly and whisper privately to trade knowledge or spread lies, culminating in a player's execution if a majority suspects them of being Evil. Of a 'night' time, players close their eyes and are woken one at a time by the Storyteller to gather information, spread mischief, or kill.

The Storyteller uses the game's intricate playing pieces to guide each game, leaving others free to play without a table or board. Players stay in the thick of the action to the very end even if their characters are killed, haunting Ravenswood Bluff as ghosts trying to win from beyond the grave.

If you arrive late to a game, you can enter after it's started as a powerful Traveller character with unusual talents and questionable allegiances. Each character comes with their own special ability and no two players in a game are ever the same character.

Blood on the Clocktower is free with your paid admission.

Come join Guest Gamer Saunsu as she demos QUORUM!

The Roman Empire has spread over all the known world. Its civilization has expanded and is influential in all aspects of life, from trade and architecture to the power of its army and its political intrigues. The presence of the gods is made clear in the events of human lives.

In Quorum, the players take on the role of Roman senators who share the power of Rome and its provinces with the aim of acquiring the greatest amount of influence possible. The goal is to be the most powerful and influential senator by gaining victory points, which are awarded in various areas of influence over the twelve rounds of the game.

On their turn, players take and play a card in front of them to affect one of the provinces. The turns continue in this way until all the players have twelve cards in front of them. At the end of the game, the combination of cards played and the influence accumulated in each of the provinces will award players victory points, which will then decide who wins. Ready to dominate the Empire?

Books & Boards — FLAMECRAFT

In partnership with The Library Center, join us for our monthly book club! Each month we will select a board game to play and discuss the books we’ve been reading this month. This is a great way to learn/play a board game, find new books to read, find new friends, and to have a great time for FREE!

For April, we will play FLAMECRAFT!

Artisan dragons, the smaller and magically talented versions of their larger (and destructive) cousins, are sought by shopkeepers so that they may delight customers with their flamecraft. You are a Flamekeeper, skilled in the art of conversing with dragons, placing them in their ideal home and using enchantments to entice them to produce wondrous things. Your reputation will grow as you aid the dragons and shopkeepers, and the Flamekeeper with the most reputation will be known as the Master of Flamecraft.

In Flamecraft, 1-5 players take on the role of Flamekeepers, gathering items, placing dragons and casting enchantments to enhance the shops of the town. Dragons are specialized (bread, meat, iron, crystal, plant and potion) and the Flamekeepers know which shops are the best home for each. Visit a shop to gain items and a favor from one of the dragons there. Gathered items can be used to enchant a shop, gaining reputation and the favors of all the dragons in the shop. If you are fortunate enough to attract fancy dragons then you will have opportunities to secure even more reputation.

Admission for the book club is free!

DEMO: FURNACE

DEMO: FURNACE

Come join Gamer Guide Saunsu as she demos FURNACE!

Furnace is an engine-building Eurogame in which players take on the roles of 19th-century capitalists building their industrial corporations and aspiring to make as much money as they can by purchasing companies, extracting resources, and processing them in the best combinations possible.

Each player starts the game with a random start-up card, the resources depicted at the top of that card, and four colored discs valued 1-4.

The game is played over four rounds, and each round consists of two phases: Auction and Production. During the auction, 6-8 company cards are laid out with their basic sides face up. Players take turns placing one of their discs on one of these cards, but you cannot place a disc on a card if a disc of the same value or color is already present. Thus, you'll place discs on four cards.

Once all the discs are placed, the cards are resolved from left to right. Whoever placed the highest-valued disc will claim this card, but first anyone with a lower-valued disc on this card will gain compensation, either the resources depicted multiplied by the value of their disc or a processing ability (exchange X for Y) up to as many times as the value of their disc.

Once all the cards have been claimed or discarded, players enter the production phase, using their cards in the order of their choice. Each company card has one action — either production or processing — on its basic side and two actions on its upgraded side. During the production phase, you can use each of your cards once to gain resources, process those resources into other resources or money, and upgrade your cards.

At the end of four rounds, whoever has the most money wins.

Furnace also includes capitalist cards that contain unique effects, and if you want, you can choose to deal one out to each player at the start of the game. For an additional challenge, you can require players to create a "production chain", with each newly acquired company card being placed somewhere in that chain and locked in position for the remainder of the game.

DEMO: Sea Dragons

Join Gamer Guide Saunsu as she teaches you Sea Dragons!

Humanity has become more daring when sailing the seas. More and more pirate ships venture into the forbidden seas of the gods, endangering their underwater kingdoms and the strange creatures that live there. In Sea Dragons, you must protect the seas by sinking pirate ships, collecting their treasures, and becoming the legendary protectors of the aquatic kingdoms.

In the game, each participant plays as a family of sea dragons who are seeking to become the protectors of the forbidden seas. Each turn, one of the two pattern cards from the hand will be played to position a sea dragon on the board, increasing your presence in all four sea kingdoms. You will be able to sink ships or collect treasures hidden in the ocean. Optionally you can complete missions with the ships that you are sinking. Note that you cannot place your own sea dragons next to each other, and if you place one next to another player's dragon, they receive treasures.

Your long-term goal is to achieve the greatest presence in each of the four kingdoms at the end of the game and get the most victory points by completing missions and collecting treasures.

Books & Boards — TINY LASER HEIST

In partnership with The Library Center, join us for our monthly book club! Each month we will select a board game to play and discuss the books we’ve been reading this month. This is a great way to learn/play a board game, find new books to read, find new friends, and to have a great time for FREE!

For May, we will play TINY LASER HEIST!

A high stakes, 3D heist game!

Everyone at the table is a career criminal eyeing retirement. Whether you’re the mastermind or hired hand, you want to get involved in as many jobs as possible and make as much money as you can. Walk away from a series of jewel heists as the winner with the most money by cooperating with other burglars to break into a vault. Work together to physically move “padlocks” using tiny hands and steal the jewels they’re protecting. The harder the heist, the bigger the payout – whoever ends up with the most money wins.

During each turn of Tiny Laser Heist, a player becomes the Mastermind and selects his team. Players not selected now play against the team to stop the heist. Both teams play action cards to determine the teams abilities and obstacles the team must face during the heist. The team then has 90 seconds to steal the jewels. If the you do, the Mastermind picks up and distributes money cards to his team members. Play continues until all the money is gone.

Admission for the book club is free!

DEMO: CITIES

Come join Guest Gamer Saunsu as she demos CITIES!

You've been tasked by the city council to put together a plan to transform a whole neighborhood in the city. You have the opportunity to build new housing, office buildings, parks, and leisure areas near the waterfront. It is in your hands to make the city a better place.

Cities is a city-building game in which you draft the best projects and arrange them in your own playing area. With action and resource draft mechanisms, it will give you the opportunity to visit the cities of Sydney, Venice, New York, Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Lisbon, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires. Can you design the most magnificent neighborhood?

The game is played over eight rounds (or four rounds in a two-player game). Each round, players use their workers to collect 1 scoring card, 1 city tile, 1-2 feature tiles, and 2-4 building pieces. City tiles are made up of park spaces, water spaces, and building spaces. Building pieces are placed on building spaces of the same color to form buildings, which can be 1-4 stories high. Whenever a player fulfills an achievement, they place one of their discs on the achievement board. At the end of the game, players add up the points they have gained from all of their scoring cards and achievements.

WEDNESDAYS WE TEACH: MOONROLLERS

Come join Gamer Guide Jess as she demos MOONROLLERS!

Our We Teach Wednesdays are a great chance to learn a new game without the pesky rule book reading. It’s also a great opportunity to meet new people or add to your gamer group.

If you participate in the We Teach event, you also can purchase the game at our shop for a 20% discount!

The Game

Moonrollers is a game of risk assessment and strategy that pits players against each other as ship captains competing to gain crewmates.

Players begin by rolling 5 dice and must choose to attempt a requirement on an available crew card that matches one of their dice. Players commit any number of the matching dice and must choose whether to stop rolling or continue to roll their remaining dice. If they fail to roll a dice that matches a requirement they are attempting, all progress that turn is lost. If they choose to stop rolling or complete the card, their progress is saved via tokens.

Some parts of each mission are particularly hazardous, awarding players who attempt them with hazard tokens that are worth prestige at the end of the game. However, the player with the most hazard symbols is reprimanded for their chaotic conduct and is awarded no extra end-game prestige.

The end of the game is immediately triggered when a player has 3 crew of the same faction or a crew of each faction on their ship. The player with the most points won from completing requirements and from Hazards wins!

WE TEACH WEDNESDAY: REBIRTH

Come join Guest Gamer Saunsu as she demos REBIRTH!

Following a series of calamities that left civilization in shambles, societies around the world are being rebuilt anew in harmony with nature. Scotland lies in ruins and the ancient clans have taken it upon themselves to restore the land. As clan leaders you will compete for strategic control of the land by rebuilding its prestigious castles.

Rebirth is a new, tile-laying game from Reiner Knizia. The game revitalizes this classic genre by combining Knizia’s elegant mechanics with Mighty Boards’ evocative world building. The result is a eurogame with smooth gameplay, set in a lush and hopeful future.

Each turn, players draw a tile from their supply and place it strategically on the board. These tiles represent your clan’s contribution to rebuilding the land. Rebirth rewards strategic foresight and clever tactical play, with tougher decisions emerging over the course of the game.

DEMO: BUTTERFLY GARDEN
Mar
15

DEMO: BUTTERFLY GARDEN

Come join Guest Gamer Saunsu as she demos BUTTERFLY GARDEN!

Butterfly Garden, first released as Indigo, is a tile-laying game along the lines of Metro, Tsuro, and Linie 1 in which players build paths bit by bit, with no player owning the individual paths and everyone trying to exploit the paths already present. Unlike those earlier games, however, your goal is to move butterflies from their starting locations on the board to your designated flowerbeds, with the player who scores the most points winning the game.

To set up the game board, place the central fountain tile, then place five pink butterfly figures and one purple butterfly figure to it. Place six fountain tiles on their designated locations on the outer edge of the game board, then place a blue butterfly figure on each fountain tile. Each player places player tokens on flowerbeds between these butterfly tiles on the edge of the game board. Depending on the player count, each player places their player tokens on the designated flowerbeds.

On a turn, a player places a path tile on any space on the game board, with the only restriction being that a player cannot create a route directly from one flowerbed to another. Players always have two path tiles on hand. Each path tile has three route segments on it, connecting one pair of edges. If a player places a path tile next to a butterfly, that butterfly flies as far as possible along the path so that all players can see where to place path tiles to next move that butterfly (thus, players avoid the mental gymnastics required in Metro and Linie 1 in which nothing moves until a route is complete). When connecting to the central fountain tile, the pink butterflies move off first, with the purple butterfly moving only with the sixth connection.

If a player places a path tile so that one butterfly would fly into another, both butterflies fly away and are removed from the game!

When a butterfly is moved to a flowerbed owned by only one player, that player keeps the butterfly. If two players own the flowerbed, then both players collect a butterfly of that color, taking the extra butterfly needed from the reserve. Once all the butterflies have been claimed, the game ends, with players earning 3 points for a purple butterfly, 2 for a pink butterfly, and 1 for a blue butterfly. The player with the most points wins.

Come join Gamer Guide Jess as she demos SAUSAGE SIZZLE!

Our We Teach Wednesdays are a great chance to learn a new game without the pesky rule book reading. It’s also a great opportunity to meet new people or add to your gamer group.

If you participate in the We Teach event, you also can purchase the game at our shop for a 20% discount!

The Game

The humans are having a Sausage Sizzle and it’s drawing a crowd of hungry Aussie critters! One by one, a Quokka, Crocodile, Platypus, Echidna, Snake, and Kangaroo will try to sneak food away from the barbie. Making off with any food is good, but those sausages sure look the tastiest!

The game is played over six rounds, with players taking turns in clockwise order. On your turn, your goal is to roll and re-roll dice to get many of the same Critter together with high values on the Food dice.

You can choose any Critter you wish for scoring but beware! You can only score one Critter each round, and each Critter can only be scored ONCE during the entire game.

But what about the Sausages?!?

Normally a Sausage on the Food dice counts as a 1, but if you manage to lock in all four of your Food dice showing Sausages, the value of a Sausage jumps up to 7 that round!
